چکیده

This paper highlights and discusses the current challenges in the implementation of large scale Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) in hardware. A mixed-mode approach to realising scalable SNNs on a reconfigurable hardware platform is presented. The approach uses compact low power analogue spiking neuron cells, with a weight storage capability, interconnected using Network on Chip (NoC) routers. Results presented show that this route to hardware implementation is promising. Key-words: Synapse, Network-on-Chip, Spiking Neural Networks, Reconfigurable, Neuron, Mixed-mode.

A world survey of artificial brain projects, Part II: Biologically inspired cognitive architectures

A number of leading cognitive architectures that are inspired by the human brain, at various levels of granularity, are reviewed and compared, with special attention paid to the way their internal structures and dynamics map onto neural processes. Four categories of Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures (BICAs) are considered, with multiple examples of each category briefly reviewed, an...

Criticality as a Set-Point for Adaptive Behavior in Neuromorphic Hardware

Neuromorphic hardware are designed by drawing inspiration from biology to overcome limitations of current computer architectures while forging the development of a new class of autonomous systems that can exhibit adaptive behaviors. Several designs in the recent past are capable of emulating large scale networks but avoid complexity in network dynamics by minimizing the number of dynamic variab...

Bayesian Memory, a Possible Hardware Building Block for Intelligent Systems

One of the problems with traditional AI and ANNs was that they did not scale well. But recently, the computational neuroscience community has started providing scalable algorithms (often loosely based on cortical models) that can be applied to large intelligent computing problems. These new algorithms, when combined with hybrid nanoelectronics, have the potential for “comparably scalable neurom...
